A Passion for Portraits with Verònica Fernández Boix
Share
Verònica Fernández Boix has firmly established herself in the world of fashion arts, securing a spot on the IFIW Top 100 list for the second year in a row. This year, she reached an even greater milestone by making it into the coveted Top 10 of the IFIW 2025 Fashion Portraits Prize.
We connected with Fernández Boix to learn more about her journey so far. "I found out about the contest last year through your Instagram, as I’ve been following you for a while and always keep an eye on everything you organise," she shares. "What motivated me to participate was the fact that the main theme was portraits, as that’s what I love painting the most and the medium through which I express myself best." Her love for portraiture is evident in her work, which captures depth, emotion, and the essence of fashion.
After making it to the IFIW Top 100 in 2024, Fernández Boix was determined to push her craft further. Her persistence paid off when she earned a place in the Top 10 this year. "I was beyond excited! I could hardly believe it," she says. "It was such an emotional moment, and I immediately shared the news with all my friends and family. It means a lot to me that my work has been recognised, and this acknowledgment fills me with motivation to keep creating."
Though her recent accolades are impressive, her artistic journey began much earlier. "I have been drawing since I was a child, and in school, I was always one of the best in my painting class," she recalls. "Over time, I stepped away from painting for a while, but a few years ago, I picked up my brushes again and rediscovered my passion - one that, now I’m certain, I will never abandon." Her continued growth as an artist is a testament to both her talent and dedication.
While painting remains a personal passion, she is open to new opportunities. "I hope to keep growing, enjoying the process, and embracing every opportunity that arises," she explains. "My surroundings have always encouraged me to paint, and little by little, I'm trying to share my work with the world through opportunities like this one, exhibitions, and other projects."

Her sources of inspiration are vast, "Fashion in general (runway shows, fashion campaigns, fashion history...), as well as the female figure, nature, the travels I take, exhibitions and museums I visit, and even my everyday life," she notes. "Although I don’t paint surrealism, I love Dalí's work; it inspires me a lot! I also admire contemporary artists such as Guillermo Lorca, Coco Davez, Ignasi Monreal, Elena Gual, Miranda Makaroff, among others."
For her IFIW Top 10 portrait, she used acrylic paint on a special thick paper she rediscovered at her parents' house. "Curiously, I found this paper a few months ago at my parents' house - they had kept it since I was a teenager taking painting classes. I decided to use it to paint a new portrait, and that’s how this painting was born, quickly becoming one of my favourites."
Looking ahead, Fernández Boix remains committed to her artistic journey. "I hope to keep painting much more, improving, practicing, and learning new techniques," she says. "Being selected among the Top 10 and having my work recognised and valued has been an honour and a powerful motivation to believe even more in what I create and to continue pursuing this passion."
With her dedication, talent, and love for portraiture, Verònica Fernández Boix is a rising force in the world of fashion illustration, and her work continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
