Winning the FIDA Excellence in Fashion Art and Illustration Student Award is a defining moment in Bar Persi’s journey, where her passion for fashion illustration meets her professional aspirations. As a fashion design student, she thrives on experimenting with bold textures and dynamic materials, pushing the boundaries of her curiosity. In this interview, she reflects on how this recognition has boosted her confidence and what lies ahead in her artistic evolution.

Is being an artist your full-time profession, or more of a personal passion?
While I'm a fashion design student, fashion is more than just a career to me - it's my passion. Being an artist and illustrator allows me to explore and express that passion in unique ways, especially through fashion illustration.

Have you entered the awards before, and if so, how many times? If it’s your first time, what made you apply or influenced you to take the plunge?
This was my first time entering the FIDA Awards. One of my lecturers encouraged me to apply, and although I was nervous, I’m so glad I decided to take the leap and give it a try.

How did you feel when you found out that you had won the award, and what do you hope to gain by winning?
I was thrilled! Winning the award gave me a huge confidence boost in my skills as a fashion illustrator. More than anything, it helped me recognise the value of my work and gave me a sense of validation in pursuing this path.

What does this recognition mean to you as an artist?
This recognition is a significant milestone in my journey as a fashion illustrator. It’s a strong affirmation that I’m on the right path and that this is truly the field I’m meant to be in.

Can you share what inspired the winning piece and tell us a bit about your process/what mediums you used?
The winning piece was inspired by my love for mixing textures and experimenting with different materials. I used a combination of coloured pencils, oil pastels, pens, and ink to create a layered, dynamic effect that reflects my approach to fashion illustration.

Is there anything that you would like people to know about you and your work?
I’m deeply inspired by colour, texture, and prints. I love exploring new materials and techniques, always learning and evolving as an artist. My work is a reflection of my constant curiosity and passion for fashion and art.

What’s next for you in your artistic journey?
I’m excited to keep creating, stay inspired, and continue pushing myself as an artist and a designer. The journey is ongoing, and I’m looking forward to where my passion for fashion and illustration takes me next.
