Are there any particular artists or artistic movements that consistently inspire your creative direction? Having studied art history, I have been influenced by many illustrators and painters (Egon Schiele, René Gruau, Henri Matisse, Édouard Manet, Ingres, etc). The artists who inspire me the most at the moment are female painters such as Berthe Morisot (loose brushstroke) and Tamara Lempicka (Art Deco style).
Is there a book or author that has had a significant impact on your thinking or artistic vision? The one book that had a significant impact on my artistic vision is a collection of writings and interviews of Henri Matisse "Écrits et propos sur l'art". I find his way of thinking about form, colors, harmony and expression to be very profound.
Do any specific songs or musicians set the tone for your work or influence your process while you create? I love listening to Queen, their music always motivates me and helps me get in the flow.
How do films or TV shows inform your visual storytelling, colour choices, or thematic elements in your work? I am very inspired by the directors of the French New Wave like François Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard and Jacques Demy. I really enjoy the shots and vibrant colors of the 60s and 70s.
Are there any brands or designers whose aesthetics resonate with you and inspire your artistic style? I first became interested in the fashion world through designers with strong creative visions, such as John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. I am currently inspired by many designers and brands like Miu Miu, Prada, Saint Laurent, Patou, Jacquemus, Schiaparelli and many others. I always find something I like (detail, volume, pattern, color or texture) in various brands or maison.
What role does travel and experiencing different cultures play in shaping your artistic ideas? Travelling feeds my imagination, and experiencing different cultures helps me have a different perspective on art and life. I particularly love visiting new museums (my dream is to visit all the world’s greatest museums), seeing different architecture and being able to interact with locals.
How do the works of artists from different disciplines - like dance, theatre, or poetry - influence your art? I love drawing dancers. I am very inspired by the way they move, the way they pose and I love to see how clothes move around the body. Every artist dedicated to their craft inspires me. A passionate person is fascinating and their passion contagious.
Do you have a favourite era of art or culture that you often revisit for inspiration, and why? I draw my inspiration from various eras. I love Renaissance painters as much as 19th century artists. Some contemporary fashion illustrators inspire me as much as those from the past. But the one era I most often revisit for inspiration is the 20th century (paintings, illustrations and movies).
How does your personal relationship with nature, cityscapes, or the environment reflect in your work? I am someone who loves living in the city but enjoys regularly going on a hike in the countryside with my dog. I love the bustle of the city, its architecture, meeting new people and artists who inspire me. I enjoy sketching my surroundings, still life, plants, buildings or people in cafés. I feel like drawing all those various subjects matters from life really helps me be more creative and free in my illustration work.
How do your inspirations evolve over time, and do you see any patterns in the art, books, or music that guide your creative journey? I am constantly discovering both past and contemporary artists that I didn’t know before. These new discoveries always leave a mark on me and inspire me. Even though my tastes and inspirations evolve, there is always a certain continuity in my work. I love the beauty of lines, textures and vibrant colors. Women have always been at the center of my inspiration.
