No Hesitation with Marta Ruiz

No Hesitation with Marta Ruiz

Marta Ruiz, a talented illustrator, fashion designer, and textile graphic designer, has been named one of the IFIW 2025 Top 10 artists. This marks her second year of recognition - she was previously selected as one of the Top 100 in IFIW 2024 and awarded the Covers & Posters FIDA Award 2024 - solidifying her status as an exciting new talent in contemporary fashion illustration. Passionate about both digital and traditional techniques, she brings a unique vision to the world of fashion illustration.

Ruiz first discovered the TOP 100 Fashion Portraits Prize through FIDA Worldwide’s Instagram page. Having followed their updates closely, she was excited to hear about the launch of the first International Fashion Illustration Week (IFIW). "I didn't hesitate - I knew it was a great opportunity to present my work to an audience truly interested in fashion illustration," she recalls. After participating last year, she knew she had to enter again. Finding out that her work had been selected for the TOP 100 filled her with joy and motivation. "I felt really happy and excited for new projects," she says.

Her passion for art began at an early age, something she always knew would shape her future. "Ever since I was a girl, I knew I loved illustration and creative processes," she shares. That love eventually turned into a full-time career. "I am a fashion designer, illustrator, and textile graphic designer," she explains, embracing multiple creative disciplines within the industry.

Inspiration comes from many places, but for Ruiz, it often starts at home. "My children love to draw and come up with beautiful colour combinations. Children have a freshness that is difficult to match," she says. She also finds herself drawn to visual storytelling in other art forms, particularly fashion photography and Japanese illustrations. Lately, she has been captivated by the work of Young Park, a Korean artist. "There’s something about the way he approaches composition and colour that really resonates with me," she adds.

Her creative process is a blend of both digital and traditional techniques, resulting in a distinctive, layered aesthetic. "For my TOP 100 submission, I used Procreate and Photoshop as digital tools, but I also incorporated traditional techniques to draw the floral print on the clothing. I even added some handmade textures to bring a unique depth to the piece," she explains. This seamless fusion of techniques is what makes her work stand out - honouring traditional artistry while embracing modern technology.

With back-to-back recognitions in the IFIW TOP 100 and Fida Awards, Ruiz is eager for new challenges and creative opportunities. "This experience has really motivated me to push my work even further and explore new projects," she says. Her journey is a testament to passion and evolution. As she continues to refine her craft, her work strikes a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, capturing the ever-evolving world of fashion illustration.
