On the Right Lines with Olga Krivova

On the Right Lines with Olga Krivova

Which artists, past or present, have had the greatest influence on your work, and why?
I adore Matisse, the graphics of Warhol and Leon Bakst. I am amazed by their work with line. The combination of lightness and minimalist techniques with the precision of artistic imagery.

Is there a particular book or author that has shaped your creative process or sparked new ideas?
Yes, there are. These are books about Sergei Diaghilev. The scale of his personality, his ability to unite very different geniuses, his openness to everything new inspire me creatively.

How does music influence your art? Are there any songs or genres you find particularly inspiring while creating?

In general, I am not a mélomane, but, oddly enough, I listen to rap most often. It really helps me concentrate while working.

Are there any films, TV shows, or documentaries that have deeply resonated with you or your artistic vision?
As a child, it was "Hedgehog in the Fog" by Yuri Norstein and Francesca Yarbusova. "Achilles and the Tortoise" by Takeshi Kitano, "Fur. An Imaginary Portrait" by Diane Arbus.

Do you look to other art forms - like photography, fashion, or architecture - for inspiration? If so, how do they impact your work?
Yes, of course. I am inspired by fashion because clothes are our companion in life; it is a very important part of ourselves. Cinema, I guess you could call me a cinephile.

Have any specific brands or design movements inspired the aesthetics or concepts behind your art?
Not really. I draw more from my inner processes and impulses.

Is there a recurring theme or message in your work that’s driven by something you’ve read, watched, or experienced in popular culture?
With my line drawings, which I don’t correct, I fight my perfectionism and allow myself to “make mistakes” on paper, but this also has a very positive impact on life.

How do trends in contemporary art or culture influence your style or the direction of your projects?
I think that contemporary art doesn’t have to be something serious in a dramatic sense. That something fun and positive can also be art.

Are there any personal experiences or memories that consistently inspire the work you create today?
I think it’s this feeling that clothes are not just clothes. That they are our companion, our necessity, and at the same time, there is a contradictory opinion about this in society.

If you could collaborate with any artist, musician, or creative brand, who would it be and why?
I think Jean Paul Gaultier. Because he is open to everything new, gives young creative people the opportunity to express themselves, and he has a great sense of humor.
